Bubbles... YAYYY!

The obsession kids have with bubbles just cracks me up.  It's like the world just stops for a second and everything becomes quiet as these little pockets of air float around their little heads.  I would love to know what is going through their minds as they go from yelling/crying to cross-eyed, awe-struck silence.

You know how those first few months of a baby's life, you freak out about your kid being up to speed with all those milestones?  Like if he isn't rolling over by his exact 5 month birthday, you're worried that he's not going to be like the other kids (and if you catch on early, you'll do yourself a favor and just throw those books out the window)... I was similarly afraid that Niall was lagging in the bubble-obsessing department.

I would sit with him in the yard and bust out the bubble wand, so excited to see his reaction... nothin.  He would, instead, choose to gnaw on a blade of dead grass.  I thought he might just not be seeing them, so I would blow them a little closer to his face... and then directly into his face.  He was just not interested.  Oh God, NO!  My kid was 9 months old and wasn't interested in bubbles yet- surely, he has passed the age that this should be happening!

But please, don't be worried for us.  He was just a little bit of a late bloomer.  Everything is ok now.  We took him to one of those baby gym activity places and they whipped out the most high tech bubble wand you've ever seen.  It was like a machine gun that pelted out wads of thousands of bubbles at a time.  They even stuck to the floor so you could pick them up and pop them yourself.  Niall looked like he was in heaven.

But for some reason, he was so afraid of everything else.  It was really cute and sad at the same time.  He LOVES the park, loves playing with this kind of stuff... but I'm thinking the instructors may have scared the poop out of him.  Because they were really scaring me, too.  Just a little too into their job, if you know what I mean.

The girl was singing these kid's songs like she was auditioning for Broadway and the guy reminded me of those creepy dudes who wear the different color shirts and have bowl cuts- I honestly don't know their names.  Well, I guess good for them for liking it so much.  Better than someone who hates being there.  Maybe they'll grow on Niall and he won't freak out next time.  We'll see.

  4. Bubbles are so much fun! Avery absolutely loves them. We went to a baby gym class this week and although she wasn't too into most of the structured activities when it was bubble time they had her undivided attention. So funny!
